You can easily damage an auto tranny while going uphill just like a manual. It's always the man behind the gun who's important, not the gun. So if the driver pushes the car way too much, he can easily damage the clutch on manual or for that matter an auto. Since the cars usually owned n driven in Pakistan don't have traction control or hill assist technologies, people end up with wheel spin when starting to climb or no spin at all. N btw no spin condition puts even more stress on the gearbox specially the clutch/clutch packs. So b gentle on the throttle n feel the wheel horsepower.
Moreover an auto tranny is more likely to b ruined when abused than a manual one because there's lesser wheel horsepower available for automatic cars than their manual counterparts. so less wheel horsepower will lure the driver in pushing it even harder, resulting in transmission damage
