I'm currently running a Dell 990 MT that's paired with a 450W Corsair PSU, a GTX750Ti and lastly an i5-2400 and been thinking about moving up a notch or two for quite some time now.
Right now, I've a few options:
- Keep the existing system and replace the CPU with an i7-2600 vanilla (quad-core, 8-threads). Cost: ~12,000.
- Sell the 990 while keep the GPU & RAM, Buy an X58 server such as the Dell T3500 and drop a hexa-core, 12-thread Xeon X5660 CPU. This system will not only be cheaper but will also be faster than the i7-2600 by around 30%. Cost: ~8,000 (Not a typo, Xeons are dirt cheap!). Plus I can sell the 990 with the i5 and the 450W PSU for around 6,000 to 7,000 rupees, easily. The T3500 comes standard with a top quality 525W PSU, BTW.
- Build a... Ryzen machine!
I've been thinking about Ryzen a LOT lately, especially after seeing the prices of Ryzen CPUs on AliExpress. A Ryzen 5 1600 with a hexa-core 12-thread CPU goes for 12k which is the same price as the i7-2600, yet it offers two more cores, 4 extra threads and VASTLY SUPERIOR performance, even better than the aforementioned Xeon X5660! As a matter of fact, the Ryzen 5 1600 is comparable to the latest i5 hexa-core CPUs from Intel, plus it's also hyperthreaded.
Problem is that I can't seem to find a used Ryzen mobo anywhere locally and I don't want to import it from China. Brand new B350 and B450 boards go for 20,000 rupees and I don't want to spend that much dough on a mobo alone as my budget is only around 15K + the money I get by selling my existing machine. I'll have to buy DDR4 RAM as well which is rather expensive.
So... What's the best option, in your opinion? Oh and I'll be replacing my GTX750Ti with either an RX470 or RX570 in the near future. As you can probably tell, I'm in love with AMD as of late!
Thanks!
