Companies don't launch new engines by studying their customers' tendency whether they can or cannot maintain DI. If you can maintain then that's good for you. But that is not the norm, infact exception. Just to quote a few examples: Mitsubishi failed with the GDI engines, Toyota failed with their D4-D engines of initial batches/lots. Lots of problems in german cars even. Combination of DI+Port Injection might work to alleviate some of the problems but it makes engine more complex.
