I'm a big fan of Bobistheoilguy since his very first video. But I should also iterate, always consult a number of oil recommendations, with Toyota (the company that made the car might I add) leading the pack and add your OWN practical experience to draw a conclusion.
The ZR-FXE uses an inline Atkinson Cycle engine designed strictly for economy. This piston style is not a common arrangement, it was entirely new for the 3rd gen (2nd gen used a normal inline). Hence, high mileage info on this subject is scarce. However, who would you trust more in this scenario, Bob or Toyota?
Our temperature and humidity is about the same as Florida's and Australia's. Toyota recommends 0w-20 in both regions. And only recommends 5w-20 or 5w-30 in case 0w-20 isn't available for a short term. Indeed, I used 5w-30 myself initially for my 3rd gen when 0w-20 wasn't immediately available. However, I always always acquire fully synthetic since that protects far far better than dino (remember the engine turns on and off repeatedly throughout the day, protection and viscocity are of prime concerns for such a cycle).
With any oil change or even car care, one must personally keep a tap on progress. I check oil on the car regularly for dirt build up and consumption. Also my air filter is a KnN since it seals intake much nicer from dirt than aftermarket crap. The result? The 3rd gen is now at 100k and consumes zero oil, fuel consumption above 15 km/l (driving habits and crappy fuel even though I only use V power hi octane), engine is as smooth as I first acquired it.
Conclusions? Always go with Toyota recommendations. Don't pretend to know more than the manufacturer, but follow all of their suggestions (oil filter, air filter, fuel grade) and you will come out on top. There are tonnes of people who've posted blogs on the 2nd gen doing upwards of 200k miles easy.
