Hello Asif,
Hope you are safe and well. It will be a facinating journey with children to travel to Gilgit, Hunza, Khunjerab, Astore, Skardu. I have travelled with my wife and children to these places. These are the safest and most peaceful places of Pakistan with stunning beauty of mountains and landscape. You can easily travel from Naran towards Chillas via Babusar Top, for Wagon R you have consultant some expert as if it can travel on slopy mountaineous route of Babusar and for the road clearance, I have travelled via GLI, Old Corolla and City on that route and these cars can travel smoothly over this route. Safety is not at all issue in these area, just avoid travelling at night because of road safety. The road between Naran till Chillas is excellent but mountaineous (Hard to drive due to inclineans). From Chills till Jaglot road is rough and bumpy but travelable. I recommend you to stay either at Joglot or Gilgit, not at Chillas because conditions at Chillas are not suitable for night stayHope you are safe and well. From Jaglot till Gilgit, Hunza, Sust, and Khunjerab (China Border) the road is excellent and smooth. You do not need any Jeep to travel to Gilgit, Hunza, or Khunjerab. But if you wish to travel to Naltar Valley from Gilgit, then you need to hire a Jeep as the road to Naltar is a dirt road, bumpy, and not easy to drive.. For Astore, Skardu they are on a different route, from Jaglot you have to take a right turn to travel toward Astore. The road, not Astore is not smooth but drivable. There are many places in Astore like Rama Lake and Rupal Valley to visit but you need to hire a jeep to visit these places. The road to Deosai is also jeepable and you have to leave your car in Astore or Skardu (You can visit Deosai from either Astore side, Chillam Choke, or from Skardu side, Ali Malik). People do take their vehicle to Deosai but it is not recommended to do so because the road is dirt and rough. One more important thing the road to Skardu from KKH is under construction and you have to check the present condition of the road to travel there, so you might not get stuck at any place. If you will be visiting Skardu I will recommend you to also visit Khaplu, it is also one of the stunning places and is easy to drive.
Do keep in mind the weather condition, as in rainy season there is land sliding at many places that can block the roads for hours and make it impossible to leave these places as planned.
