This is an eye opener and fact check for all Karachites. I purchased a 2 ton samsung inverter ac in January this year , got it vacuumed installed after showing Samsung technicians the owners manual and following it to the word. Covered the ac as it was winters and took extreme care of it before the arrival of summers. Before turning and using my Ac in March i got it serviced without removing any part or disconnecting any hose (they call it general service). Everything was fine until the ac started to leak inside one fine day after Karachi rains. I thought its the drain issue and tried to disconnect the drain hose from the drainage but to no good. Called in the Samsung service center and got a visit the following day who tried his best to resolve the issue without taking off the unit but to no avail. According to him the ac had multiple leaks , which needed it to uninstall and service the drains . After few days , i gave into Samsung demand for removal of the Inner unit and the guys took it for service bringing it another day with the issue resolved (according to them). They reinstalled it using the vacuum pump and i thought everything would be great from now on.
A week later , the Air conditioner lost its cooling . I understood right then that the gas has leaked and this is the end of the Ac. Called in Samsung again and the technician came this time claiming that indeed the coil has leaked and we need to order a replacement coil (samsung claims repairing does not fix coils and they only replace coils). since my ac is under warranty there are no charges , no visit charges , no labour charges , no service charges. I got a brand new coil after 2 days , and the technician came to reinstall it .
Since then my air conditioner has been working great but let me tell you about the condition of the previous installed coil . That coil was severely rusted and dirty after only 1 month of actual running. Why you ask ? because i had been cleaning the filters weekly ? got it serviced without removing the inner unit ? pressed the ac auto cleaning button each week ? Don't know but the fact remains
YOU CANNOT EXPECT AN AC TO LAST IN KARACHI FOR LONG REGARDLESS OF THE CARE OR VACUUM INSTALL. IT IS PURE LUCK , ONCE COIL LEAKS ITS DEAD.
Repairing the leak just gives it oxygen to run , don't expect your ac to run long after repairs as it will keep requiring repairs after few weeks or months.
Same time as Samsung , i got a 1.5 ton Kenwood 60% saving series for my kids room( a low end product at great value) and the outer inner i never touched it or took care of it. It's running great till date. So to conclude, ac's in Karachi will never last long. Since people have turned towards Splits and especially the inverter ones , they all suffer from leaks or something or the other. Where trees near sea cannot be grown , how can you expect ac coils to last ? Our sea is one of the saltiest in the world , with very high humidity levels i guess that explains it .
Edit : I just rechecked on the theory and can confirm that arabian sea is indeed one of the saltiest in the world and there's even a dead zone as big as Scotland which does not support even Marine life. We are not Middle east which only is exposed to edges or shallow of the ocean we experience the deepest part of it.
