Oil change is a very simple procedure and anyone can do it. There’s a drain nut at the bottom of the engine to drain the old oil. Oily filter is also always changed with the oil. A new oil filter should be lined with oil around the edges of the seal for a good fit. Oil change frequency is given in the owner’s manual (a very important document for proper car maintenance).
The real question is which oil to use.
Fully synthetic oil is the best. I’ve used Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 and it’s a great oil. I’ve recently switched to LiquiMoly Syntech 5W-40 and its an out of this world oil.
The next major obstacle is the spare parts. I recommend using only genuine parts. There’s a website called SSG Asia. It’s dubai based and you can find part catalogues for all major vehicle brands and models. You can use those part numbers to see if the local parts guy is selling you the right parts for your car. You can search by VIN or simply using the drop down menus.
A common mistake I’ve observed in Pakistan is that people do not take spark plugs and ignition coils seriously. Ignition coils and spark plugs should always be the exact same part number as given in the vehicle parts catalogue. Many mechanics will tell you iridium is good or double tipped is good........do NOT get swayed by them. Using wrong spark plugs can increase your vehicle emissions, reduce mileage and cause an incomplete combustion cycle which can reduce your engine power.
