I believe some 1UZ vvtis do have cable actuated throttle bodies. At least all the two or three that were converted in Citi Sadar Road did not need the DBWs....
To be clear, I am all for rebuilding engines wherever possible because its a skill and knowledge resource that you cannot do without in the long run. In that sense, Sami is right in laying down the list of parts that would be needed and I am just pulling his leg on the cost and benefit here. Nevertheless, the issue remains that even if one can get all the parts down, in a rally situation the engine remains at risk and there is precious little evidence of rebuilt engines lasting it out. I am not sure whether its the torque specs or some other missing link, but surely at this stage there is enough loose rope in there to hang yourself even if your very methodic about it.
