Just as a teaser for things to come, I am planning a power steering conversion. Electrical power steering to be exact. Why is this alteration need one might ask. Well the answer is my wife is very small with next to no upper body strength. She CANNOT turn the steering if the van is standing still. If she is out in the rough and needs to turn the van in a narrow path etc. she will never be able to manage it with the stock setup.
I am in communication with a guy in UK who takes the stock T3 column and works his magic on it and adds a motor, ECU and so on. Some small electrical re-wiring needs to be done to provide power to the ECU/motor via the switch.
That's what the kit looks like. There is a ECU and a knob to control the amount of assist applied
There is one fly in the ointment, the deal is that I have to return to him my old steering column after I am done with the conversion. Now, in other countries the govt. laws are pretty OK with importing/exporting mechanical stuff. But in our dear country, such activity makes water come in the mouth of our custom people. Importing stuff for the van is expensive but at least it is possible at a price. Exporting is a whole different ball game. I tried to sent the clock from my 1948 Jaguar out to UK for repair. It was could not be done. Same will be case with sending out the old column. Plus the cost of postage, if I could sent it would be thousands upon thousands of rupees.
So for the time being I am a bit stuck. I am trying to convince the seller to just send the EPS kit without applying the "core return" policy. No success so far
