Toyota Vitz is a line of subcompact hatchbacks produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota. Its 1st generation was introduced globally in the year 1999 and since then, Toyota has further introduced two new generations and a hybrid variant. 

Introduced in 1999, the Toyota Vitz became instantly popular around the world. Due to its great fuel economy and dedicated safety features, it became the first choice of countless families. Uptill the launch of its 3rd generation, Toyota Vitz had sold 3.5 million units in excess around the world. In 2019, the “Vitz” nameplate was dropped in Japan and was replaced by the Yaris series. 

The 1st generation Toyota Vitz was initially showcased at the Paris Motor Show in 1998. Its sales commenced in 1999. As its popularity grew, Toyota started launching Vitz with different name plates such as Echo and Yaris. This model was so well-received by the public that it received Car of the Year Japan Award.

The 2nd generation Toyota Vitz was introduced in 2005. It had a new design and improved fuel efficiency. The 4 cylinder engine was replaced with a 3 cylinder engine and the 1.3L engine also received an upgrade. It later received a minor facelift in 2010 regarding its exterior. Another variant released in 2005 was the Vitz RS. It was powered by a 1.5 L 4-cylinder VVT-i engine and had 16 inch alloy rims. 

The 3rd generation Toyota Vitz is the latest in the line. It was introduced in 2010 with a better design, sporty features and a more spacious interior. Over the years, it has received two facelifts; one in 2014 and the other in 2017. The 2014 face-lifted version is popular as Vitz spider shape in the market.

With the second facelift of the 3rd generation Toyota Vitz, a new variant was introduced. It was the hybrid series which was introduced in 2017 in Pakistan with a hybrid powertrain.

The Toyota Vitz current_year was launched in 2010. This 3rd Generation Toyota Vitz is a front engine front wheel/ four-wheel drive subcompact hatchback. The Vitz is one of the most popular hatchbacks of all time. The New Model Toyota Vitz current_year featured an updated and sportier design language as well as larger exterior dimensions compared to the previous 2nd generation Toyota Vitz making for a more spacious interior. Toyota Vitz Exterior

Toyota Vitz current_year exterior features a unique and distinctive design language. The front end houses sleek narrow upswept multi-reflector halogen headlights, a small grille with a chrome accent, and a large trapezium air intake on the front bumper. The rear end houses sharp trapezium-styled side swept headlights and a horizontal chrome trim piece running the length of the standard case tailgate.

Both Toyota Vitz Jewela and the F variant have 14 inch steel wheels. On the other hand, the U variant has a 15 inch steel wheel and the RS variant has a 16 inch steel wheel. Toyota Vitz Jewela and Toyota Vitz F share almost the same external features except that Jewela stands out with its Jewela exclusive rear emblem.

The Toyota Vitz RS variant features a slightly different design. The front end houses a larger front bumper with a larger trapezium air intake flanked by dual air intakes and a rear spoiler. It  includes a front and rear spoiler, front fog lights, Xenon headlights, and rear fog lamps.

All other variants of the Toyota Vitz feature identical styling in every aspect. The overall exterior of the 3rd Generation Toyota Vitz features a fairly unique design language that allows it to differentiate itself from its rivals.

The Toyota Vitz hybrid current_year variant has a whole new design. The exterior is more curvy with defined edges and corners. The front bumper sports a massive black grill which gives the Vitz hybrid a sporty and bold look. The front fog lamps are situated at the extreme right and left edges of the balck front accents.

The rear end design has also been reimagined. With wider, extended rear brake lamps and red reflectors at the bottom of the bumper, the rear looks cleaner and bolder. The reversing camera is situated under a crease above the space for the registration plate. The overall design is sleek and modern which shares similarities with the 1st generation model. 

Toyota Vitz Interior

Toyota Vitz current_year interior features black and polished silver trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features on the F variant include manual air conditioning, 8 airbags, cup holders, power lock doors, urethane covered power steering, power windows, tachometer, and a stereo speaker audio system. 

Features on the higher-end Toyota Vitz U variant include power-adjustable mirrors, front fog lights, automatic air conditioning and heated front seats. The U variant also has smart entry and start system along with an adjustable deck board. Both the U variant and the Jewela feature Toyota Safety Sense C. Safety Sense C is Toyota’s pre-crash safety protocol which uses laser radar and monocular camera method. The system also has alerts for lane departure and automatic high beam. 

There are only a few differences between the F and U variants such as the F variant has a urethane steering wheel while the U variant’s steering is wrapped in leather.

The Toyota Vitz RS has options such as side airbags, satellite navigation, climate control, leather upholstery, power door mirrors and cruise control. Toyota Vitz 2021 hybrid variant also has steering controls with standard multimedia functions and trip and return functions. 

The overall interior of the Toyota Vitz 3rd Generation features a good amount of interior space in both the front and rear for a sedan of its exterior dimensions. It also offers a good level of comfort, a smooth ride with its soft suspensions setup, and a good level of interior refinement. One oddity is that the hybrid lacks a push-button start feature and has the traditional turn-key ignition. 

Toyota Vitz Engine

Toyota Vitz has a wide variety of engine options ranging from 1.0L to 1.5L paired with five-speed manual, six-speed manual, four-speed automatic and CVT transmission. The Toyota Vitz F variant has 1.0L and 1.3L options with a 1.5L option in the hybrid version. 

Toyota Vitz U variant’s options include 1.3L engine and 1.5L engine with the latter being available in hybrid version. The Jewela comes in 1.0L and 1.3L engine options and the Toyota Vitz RS comes with a 1.5L engine. 

The hybrid variants have electric continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder DOHC internal combustion engine. On the other hand, the non-hybrid Toyota Vitz U, F and Jewela variants have Super CVT-i (Super continuously variable transmission).

Toyota Vitz Mileage

Toyota claims that Toyota Vitz 2021 gives an average of 21.6km/L with the 1.0L variant, 25km/L with the 1.3L variant and 34km/L with the 1.5L Hybrid variant.

Vitz Ride & Handling

The current_year Toyota Vitz gives a smooth driving experience as it is equipped with the Star safety system. This system comprises vehicle stability control which improves the stability of Toyota Vitz current_year on curvy roads. The availability of traction control allows a comfortable ride even on bumpy roads. 

The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) combined with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist keeps the car balanced and distributes the weight of the car evenly on each wheel. It also prevents the car from slipping on steep paths. 

The upgrade on the engine also reduces vibrations caused at high speeds making the handling of the Toyota Vitz 2021 a lot easier. The electric powered steering in the hybrid variants has been sports tuned for better responsiveness. 

Vitz Maintenance

Toyota Vitz is an old and well known name in the Pakistani market. Even though it is not locally assembled, due to high demand, its autoparts are easily available in the market.

Vitz Competitors

The main competitors of the Toyota Vitz & Vitz Jewela are the Suzuki Cultus, FAW V2, Suzuki Swift, Toyota Passo, Suzuki Wagon R, Toyota Aqua Hybrid 1.5L, and Hyundai Santro.

Although they fall in the same price bracket, the Suzuki alternatives are a lot cheaper than the Toyota Vitz. ranging between 15 lacs to 22 lacs, the Suzuki models provide an affordable alternative to the consumers. On the downside, Suzuki Cultus and Wagon R lack safety features like traction control and Suzuki Swift lacks airbags. 

The Toyota Aqua Hybrid 1.5L is longer with shorter height which makes it a lot more stable than the Toyota Vitz hybrid but as they both have the same engine, Vitz provides better performance.
