PAMA- Car Sales Jacked Up by 49% Last Month

After the government relaxed import restriction, car sales observed a slight jump last month. But in the midst of deteriorating economy, the nightmare is not over yet as another price hike series and production breakdown is on the way.

As per the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) report, car sales are increased in August’23 by 49% selling 7,579 vehicles against 5,092 units in July. Coming to year-to-year (YoY) sales, car sales observed a slump of 36%. Meaning, car makers sold 11,789 cars in corresponding time of last year.

Two Wheelers

Likewise, two-wheelers sales also surged by 19% last month, selling 86,504 units in August against 72,421 bikes in July’23. Japanese motorcycle maker, Honda sold 75,071 bikes in August compared to 62,012 units in July’23. Meanwhile, Pak Suzuki observed a staggering increase of 80%, selling 1,722 units last month compared to 957 in July.

Trucks & Buses

Sales of trucks plummeted by 19% (MoM) whilst increased by 13% in case of buses. Moving to Jeep and pickups, sales of pickups witnessed a dropped by 13% whereas jeeps’ sales witnessed a jump of 31%.

Company-Wise Sales Breakdown

Toyota Pakistan sales jacked up by 13%, selling 1,548 units in August ’23 compared to 1,368 vehicles in July. (MoM growth: 13%)

Coming to Honda Atlas’ sales, the carmaker soared by 36%, selling 674 units last month compared to 494 units in July’23. (MoM growth: 36%)

Comparing to its Japanese peers, Pak Suzuki Motors Company’s sales did wonders, marked a humongous increase of 75% in last month, selling 4,268 vehicles against 2,444 cars in July. (MoM growth: 75%)

Hyundai Nishat sales increased by 37%, selling 778 units last month compared to 569 units in July. (MoM growth: 37%)

It is related to mention that all other car companies, Kia Lucky Motors, Master Changan Motors, Regal Motors, MG Motors, and Al-Haj Proton, are not PAMA members. Their sales numbers are not included in the report.

Car-Wise Sales Breakdown

Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company sold 2,769 units of Alto, 305 units of Suzuki Cultus, 359 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 506 units of Suzuki Swift, 166 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 163 units of Suzuki Ravi.

Toyota Indus sold 1,119 units of Corolla and Yaris and 429 units of Fortuner and Hilux.

Honda Atlas sold 492 unit of City and Civic and 182 units of BR-V and HR-V.

Hyundai Nishat sold 92 units of Elantra, 101 units of Sonata, 120 units of Porter, and 465 units of Tucson.
