May you live long sir ! Rawalpindi was abound in taxi vehicles. I guess it is still home largest number of taxis in the country. Opel Rekord and Morris Minor were popular taxis while Chevy, Dodge and Buick taxis were for the upper class in early 1970s. In 2006, I saw the last Opel, in wonderful trim, in Rawalpindi at a car showroom on Murree Road asking for Rs 60 k. I still regret not buying that beautiful blue coloured vehicle.
There were dozens of Mazda, Datsun, Morris Oxford, Hillmen, Ford, Cortina, Belair and Impala dotting the streets of the twin cities. Later, Renault and Suzuki Custom were also common in mid 1970s.
God knows what happened to all those vehicles. I think they all were cut to pieces and went to iron furnaces in Islamabad. I personally saw some of these cars being torn by axe-wielding men in Kutchra Gully next to Glass Factory Chowk in Rawalpindi.
