Seems like u know little about "these Chinese brands". The changan or channa are not FAW vehicles. They were from other brands who could not make their market here. And quality of product was not the reason, financial trouble and weak local partners was the reason. This is also the reason that otherwise very strong brands like Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Chevrolet etc also failed here in Pakistan. It doesn't mean that these brands were weak or their products were not as good. Just that their local partners didn't know how to do business.
FAW has been here from 2006, and you can see their XPV and Carrier vehicles all over the place. Before these vehicles, they started with heavy vehicles, prime movers etc. Currently, around 40% of the heavy vehicle market is owned by "these Chinese brands". Even the XPV and Carrier have eaten into Bolan and Ravi's market share. Their policy is to market slowly, not exceeding their production capacity. But you can see these small vehicles all over Punjab at least, even in rural areas.
Apart from that, "these Chinese brands" are buying the European brands as well, and hiring workforce from the leading brands worldwide. Volvo has already been bought by Chinese automaker Geely, which failed an entry into Pakistan in 2004-05, again because of a weak local partner. FAW itself has been established since the 1950s in China and as I mentioned earlier as well, they are manufacturing Audis, Volkswagens and Toyotas in China. All these brands have technology transfer agreements with their foreign partners and they use that technology to build their own products. V2 is based on Toyota Vitz platform. It was preceded by a first gen Vitz with an 8A-FE engine in China. The FAW Sirius is based on Toyota Avanza and uses a Daihatsu gearbox. The reason it has been discontinued here is because of a disagreement with Daihatsu. V2 has been launched, therefore, with engine and gearbox designed by FAW themselves, though it is based on the Toyota engine and gearbox they were using in the earlier Vitz, being marketed as FAW Vizi in China.
Here are some useful links about "these Chinese brands". If you want to, I can dig the sources for the other things I mentioned as well. Cheers
