The 1st generation Hyundai Santro was launched in the year 2000 by Hyundai-Dewan Motors Pakistan. Hyundai Santro 1st Generation was also known as Hyundai Atoz, Hyundai Amica and Hyundai Santro Xing in other regions. Hyundai Santro (1997-2003) is a front engine front wheel drive hatchback.  Hyundai Santro was the first car in its class to feature a distinctive design for a hatchback and an electronic fuel injected engine. Hyundai halted the production of Hyundai Santro 1st Generation in 2003. Hyundai Santro was available in only 1 variant only. The price of the 1st Generation Hyundai Santro was fairly competitive when compared to other models in the same class.

Hyundai Santro (1997-2003) features a very distinctive and unique design language. The front end houses circular headlights, a rectangular grille, a small front bumper with dual black horizontal plastic trim piece strips running on opposite ends and a dual air intakes. The raised rear end houses sleek narrow tall stacked high mounted taillights with a standard case hatchback. The overall exterior styling of the Santro car features a fairly unique design language that can stand out among its competitors.

The interior of the 1st Generation Hyundai Santro features the use of grey plastic trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in fabric. Standard features include air conditioning, cup holders, rear windscreen wiper and a rear defogger. The overall interior of the 1st Generation Hyundai Santro features a decent amount of space in the front but a lack of interior space in the rear, it also features a decent level of comfort but a lack of interior refinement.
